Trans Amadi branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safety and sustainable engineering practices through the donation of safety kits to the TURN Plastic Recycling Plant in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative underscores the branch’s dedication to fostering safer workplaces and supporting innovations that contribute to environmental preservation.
Speaking during the presentation, the Branch Chairman, Engr. Dr. Jonathan Francis, FNSE, emphasised that safety remains the foremost priority of the Branch. He encouraged the staff and management of the plant to continue upholding the “safety first” culture in all aspects of their operations. Engr. Dr. Francis also expressed the Branch’s readiness to provide technical support to the plant, recognizing the vital role it plays in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We remain committed to supporting institutions that are contributing meaningfully to environmental sustainability,” he noted. “The TURN Plant is helping to reduce emissions and greenhouse gases through rigorous recycling efforts, and we are proud to stand behind such an impactful initiative.”
Receiving the safety kits on behalf of the plant’s management, Mr. Emeka Onyeka expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Trans Amadi Branch for the thoughtful gesture. He reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high safety standards and acknowledged the Branch leadership for fulfilling their promise of providing technical support.
“We deeply appreciate this donation and the continuous support from NSE Trans Amadi Branch,” he said. “Your commitment strengthens our resolve to keep safety at the forefront of our operations.”
The TURN Plastic Recycling Plant is a joint CSR initiative of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, NNPC Limited, and UNITAR. The facility is designed to recycle over 1,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually and reduce over 750 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year—an environmental benefit equivalent to planting 4,500 trees.
Through projects like this, NSE Trans Amadi Branch continues to demonstrate leadership in advocating for sustainable engineering solutions, environmental responsibility, and community development.
