Five persons from two separate overnight operations on Friday and early Saturday in Akure South Local Government Area of the state were rescued by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun.

The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the development to pressmen on a weekend of palpable tension in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Adeleye disclosed that a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were abducted at Pelebe in the outskirts of Oda Akure road between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Three hours later at around one a.m., the victims were rescued by the Rapid Response squad of Amotekun, after a heavy confrontation with the kidnappers.

Adeleye further said that three health workers previously kidnapped were rescued by Amotekun operatives at about 4:30 am and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed health facility.

The Amotekun commander assured residents that safety of lives and property remained a top priority for the state government,  urging members of the public to persist in furnishing  timely and useful information to security agencies, hammering on the need for collective efforts to enhance safety across the state.

The rescue attempts by Amotekun however followed on the heels of a kidnap incident by gunmen, when they stormed a government health centre in Oke Ijebu, Akure in the early hours of Saturday, around 2:00 a.m., abducting all staff on duty.

The attackers arrived in a large bus, forcefully entered the medical facility, located beside Mega School, and took away six health workers, including some interns, according to an eyewitness.

The assailants reportedly packed all the victims into the bus, before driving off to an unknown destination, leaving residents of the area in shock, with  calls mounting for urgent security intervention and the safe rescue of the abducted health workers.
