Badagry Recycling Hub
The Honorable Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, Prince Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, accompanied his wife, Tosin Whingan, Chairperson of Clean-Up Badagry Initiative, who officially commissioned the “Clean-Up Badagry Recycling Hub” on April 2, 2026. The launch, which took place in the heart of the constituency, marks a significant milestone in the lawmaker’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community development. The event was attended by various stakeholders, community leaders, and environmental advocates, all of whom hailed the initiative as a transformative step for the ancient city.
The “Clean-Up Badagry Recycling Hub” is designed to address the growing challenge of waste management within the constituency while promoting a culture of recycling and environmental responsibility. According to the project’s vision, the hub will serve as a central point for the collection and processing of recyclable materials, thereby reducing the volume of waste that ends up in local landfills and waterways. This initiative aligns with global efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and foster a “greener urban environment.
During the official ceremony, Rep Sesi Whingan emphasized that the hub represents a “bold step towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Badagry.” He noted that the project is not just about waste management but also about economic empowerment. By creating a structured system for recycling, the initiative is expected to generate jobs for local residents, particularly the youth and women, who will be involved in the collection, sorting, and processing of materials.
In her remarks at the launch, the wife of the lawmaker and chairperson of the Initiative expressed her pride in the development, highlighting the importance of a clean environment for the health and well-being of families. She urged the residents of Badagry to embrace the culture of waste sorting and to actively participate in the programs organized by the hub. Their presence together at the commissioning underscored the collaborative nature of the project and the importance of family and community unity in achieving sustainable goals.
The “Clean-Up Badagry Initiative” project is one of several developmental initiatives supported deeply by Rep Whingan since his election to the 10th National Assembly apart from those that he has spearheaded. From education and infrastructure to technology and now environmental health, the lawmaker has consistently demonstrated a multi-faceted approach to improving the quality of life for his constituents. The recycling hub is expected to collaborate with local government councils and private waste management firms to ensure its long-term viability and impact.
As the event concluded, the official commissioning was met with enthusiasm from the community, who see it as a much-needed intervention in waste management. The launch of the hub is a clear signal that Badagry is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable development within Lagos State. With the continued support of the residents and the leadership of Rep Sesi Whingan, the “Clean-Up Badagry Initiative” is poised to create a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship and economic growth for generations to come.
