Men jailed in Ondo for stealing items worth N4m

Two men, Ibrahim Haruna and Awolu Lia, have been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by an Akure Magistrate’s Court for stealing items valued at four million, four hundred and seventy-six thousand, three hundred naira.

 

The convicts, who pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them, were arraigned by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, on a charge bordering on burglary and stealing.

 

The stolen items included a Duravolt table fan, wiring cables, an umbrella, pairs of male and female shoes, a pair of white and black MK shoes, two female fancy bags, rechargeable fans, Samsung Chrome and Lenovo laptops, a Microsoft tablet, an iPad, a complete set of drilling machine, three Viva soaps, a lightweight gas cylinder, a Sinocare Safe AQ blood sugar machine and a consumer unit AT&T box.

 

According to the prosecution counsel, T.T. Samuel, the accused committed the offences on April 22, 2026, at about 2:05 p.m. at FUTA North Gate area, Olugere, Akure, after the defendants unlawfully broke into the residence of one Olusola Isaac and carted away several valuables.

 

The offences contravened Sections 383, 390(9), 410, 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, and Samuel urged the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar criminal acts.

 

Delivering judgement, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni sentenced the defendants to four calendar years’ imprisonment on each of the three counts without an option of fine, the jail terms to run concurrently.
