The much-anticipated All Progressives Congress governorship primaries in Nasarawa State finally took place on Thursday.
Turnout was massive and historic. Men and women trooped to their wards in their hundreds, despite the late distribution of materials for the election.
Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, the governor’s anointed aspirant, proved his popularity across the LGAs in the state.
In Keffi, his country home, Senator Wadada handed a landslide defeat to retired Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar, scoring over 16,000 votes and leaving the former police boss with just 75 votes.
Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule, in his Akwanga country home, also stood firmly behind his preferred choice and delivered a landslide margin against those opposed to Senator Wadada’s candidacy.
In Lafia, Senator Ahmed Wadada’s popularity overshadowed the home-based retired IGP, a newcomer to politics. Many chanted “Wadada Gomina, IGP Police,” sending a message that politics is not the same as police work.
