Community Pillars Award 2026: Nominations open as 17th  edition committee commences screening

Nominations have officially opened for the 17th edition of the Community Pillars Award, organised by Eyegate Media Limited. The organisers have commence a structured screening and ratification process to identify individuals and institutions whose contributions have delivered measurable and sustainable impact within their communities and society.

The award is founded on the conviction that community development cannot,and should not, be left entirely to government. While government has a fundamental responsibility to provide infrastructure, services and an enabling environment for citizens to thrive, it would be equally improper for communities, individuals, businesses and other institutions to wait for government to do everything before taking action on challenges within their immediate environment.

Across society, there are needs that can be addressed through personal initiative, collective responsibility, philanthropy, professional commitment, innovation and community leadership.
The Community Pillars Award therefore seeks to recognise and celebrate those who have chosen to make a difference, not merely by identifying problems, but by committing their resources, influence, expertise, time or goodwill towards finding solutions.

It is an initiative designed to promote a culture in which citizens and institutions see themselves not only as beneficiaries of development, but also as active participants and stakeholders in building stronger, safer, more prosperous and more inclusive communities.

The opening of nominations follows the constitution and inauguration of the Nomination and Ratification Committee and the Technical Committee, which have been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the nomination, screening, assessment, verification and ratification processes for the 2026 edition.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for November 21, 2026, at the NPA Sports Club, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, where community leaders, traditional rulers, maritime professionals, business leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and other stakeholders are expected to gather to celebrate distinguished records of service, leadership and social impact.

According to the organisers, the 2026 edition reflects the evolving scope of the Community Pillars Award, with recognition extended across sectors and disciplines where individuals and institutions have demonstrated a sustained commitment to community development, human welfare, ethical leadership, entrepreneurship, social responsibility and inclusive growth.

Broadened Award Categories

Among the categories open for consideration is Traditional Rulers, which recognises monarchs and community leaders whose leadership have contributed significantly to the welfare, cohesion and development of their people.

The Maritime Pioneers category is designed to honour passionate Unionists, consummate leaderships, ship captains and other maritime professionals whose contributions extend beyond their professional responsibilities to encompass humanitarian intervention, community service and the welfare of seafarers.

The Corporate and Business Leaders category recognises companies, entrepreneurs and captains of industry with demonstrable records of community engagement, social investment and responsible corporate citizenship.

The 2026 edition also introduces a Young Industrialists category to recognise emerging entrepreneurs and young business leaders whose enterprises, innovations and empowerment initiatives are creating economic opportunities and contributing to development at the grassroots.

Credibility And Due Process

Eyegate Media Limited said, the awards selection process has been designed to place emphasis on credibility, integrity, verifiable impact and sustained contribution, rather than professional prominence alone.

Nominations received from members of the public, corporate organisations, civil society groups, professional associations and other stakeholders will be subjected to a structured review by the relevant committees before recommendations are forwarded for final ratification.

The Ratification Committee, chaired by a notable legal practitioner OluSegun Olaiya Benson Osasona ( Barrister at Law), has already commenced its responsibilities and confirmed the conferment of awards on an initial group of distinguished individuals, Associations whose records of service and leadership have met the prescribed criteria.

The initial cohort includes two veteran ship captains, recognised for their longstanding philanthropic interventions and contributions to human welfare, as well as a maritime crewing and mining agent, acknowledged for an exemplary professional record as a registered agent.

The organisers emphasised that the Community Pillars Award is not intended merely to celebrate professional achievement or public visibility, but to recognise the broader value created by individuals and organisations whose actions have translated into tangible benefits for their communities and society at large.

Call For Nominations

Eyegate Media Limited is therefore inviting members of the public, corporate organisations, civil society organisations, professional associations and community groups to nominate individuals and institutions whose records of service merit consideration for the 2026 Community Pillars Award.
The organisers said nominations should be based on demonstrable contributions, measurable impact, integrity and sustained commitment to community and societal development.
