The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Judiciary, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police to ensure that they maintained their independence from the executive.
PDP stated this through a press release made available to newsmen on Saturday by its upcoming 2025 National Elective Convention media subcommittee.
The party expressed concerns over what it described as “the potential manipulation of the judiciary, police and INEC, expressing fears that the APC could use them to prevent the convention from holding or postpone it indefinitely.
The press release further conveyed the worries of the party’s leadership that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might use these institutions to disrupt the convention or influence its outcome.
The media subcommittee therefore, called on the judiciary, INEC, and the police to demonstrate high levels of patriotism and transparency in the discharge of their duties.
The party wants these institutions to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the convention and ensure that the process is free, fair, and transparent.
The PDP emphasized the importance of democratic institutions in ensuring the stability and progress of the country.
The party urged the judiciary, INEC, and the police to prioritize the interests of Nigeria and its citizens, rather than serving the interests of the ruling party.
The PDP’s national convention is scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The party has begun preparations for the event, including the screening of aspirants for various national offices, which will hold on October 28.
The PDP urged its members to unite and stand strong in the face of potential challenges.
The party’s leadership assures members that it is working tirelessly to ensure the success of the convention and protect the party’s legacy.
