Former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has responded to the news of his death in a London hospital which made the rounds on Friday, affirming that he was ‘hale, hearty and in excellent health’.

In a post on his verified social media handle, he wrote: “My beloved Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers, I woke to hear of a rumour making the rounds about my wellbeing. Let me assure you personally:

“I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals still find joy in spreading falsehood simply for reasons yet to be established. But we will continue to rise above such mischief.

“To everyone who reached out with calls, messages, and prayers, I sincerely appreciate your concern. Your love and goodwill mean more than words can express.

“Please disregard the rumour entirely.”

Earlier, Dr Paul Nwosu, a former Commissioner for information in Anambra said in a statement issued on Friday in Awka, that Willie Obiano was alive.

He said Obiano personally spoke to him and assured him that he was hale and hearty.

“The former governor has reassured members of his family at home and in the diaspora, as well as his numerous friends, well-wishers, political associates and teeming supporters, that he is hale and hearty.

“He affirmed that, by the special grace of God, his health remains in excellent condition,” he said.

Nwosu attributed the spread of the falsehood to the desperate bid of social media handlers to create content and generate traffic.

He urged the general public to disregard the misleading information post in circulation.

“In a desperate attempt to generate social-media content, some individuals resorted to spreading falsehoods and engaging in the unthinkable.

“Such acts of mischief are unacceptable and will not go unpunished,” he said.
