The incessant fire outbreaks recorded in Orange Market Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, is now a thing of the past, according to the Pioneer Secretary General, Alhaji Mohammed Kabiru Suleiman.
He said since the relocation from the old Orange Market a decade ago, the usual losses resulting from fire outbreaks have been successfully managed.
Mohammed Suleiman, speaking on behalf of the entire exco of the market on Wednesday, highlighted some areas of challenge, calling on the state government under the watch of Engineer Abdullahi Sule to intervene.
“We are better and have advanced far in structure, security, and in terms of traffic, compared to where we relocated from. You know one of the major reasons for establishing this place was because of the fire incidents which were becoming an annual occurrence,” he said.
He expressed special thanks to the former Governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, for supporting and commissioning the market before his exit from government.
“All things being equal, we need a firefighting tank, if not a station, because we already have a police and civil defense post that checks security challenges,” he added.
Suleiman revealed that the physical structures in the market and its proximity to the FCT attracted the World Bank to construct toilet facilities that can generate power from waste in the market.
Contributing, the Secretary of Irish Potato Traders, Yakubu Chester Maram, thanked the Nasarawa State government for uplifting commercial activities in the state, especially with the attention given to markets, which has opened more opportunities for traders and increased revenue generation.
Also, Umar Mohammed, a tomatoes dealer, expressed happiness with the Nasarawa State government, saying that if not for their swift intervention, which saved traders from losses, the new Orange Market, established ten years ago, has given hope to sellers and buyers of items.
