Social activist, Ifeanyi Samson, has urged Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori to wade into the ugly incident which happened during a cultural festival in Ozoro, Delta State where some young women were captured in video being sexually molested by some men.
Calling the incident ‘deeply troubling’, Samson, said the governor as the chief executive officer of Delta State, should invoke the powers of his exalted office by making sure that those behind the act are made to pay for it to serve as deterrent to individuals with such tendencies in the state.
A press statement issued by the social activist noted that cultural events should promote unity and pride rather than attracting outrage against the good people of Delta State.
“My attention has been drawn to a very disturbing video circulating from Ozoro in Delta State. What I saw was deeply troubling and raises serious concerns about public decency, safety, and the image of our communities. This kind of activity, especially when displayed publicly and shared widely, sends the wrong message to our children and the wider society.
“Cultural events and festivals are meant to promote unity, pride, and positive traditions not actions that bring embarrassment or create public outrage. I strongly call on the Delta State Government to urgently investigate this matter and take appropriate action where necessary. Authorities must ensure that all public festivals are conducted in a responsible and lawful manner that reflects the dignity of our people.
“I urge community leaders, traditional rulers, and relevant authorities to review what happened and put proper measures in place to prevent a recurrence. Our culture should be protected, but it must also uphold values of respect, discipline, and responsibility.
“I respectfully call on the Governor of Delta State to look into this issue and address the concerns of citizens who are deeply disturbed by what has been seen.”
In a related development, the Delta State Police Command indicated that 15 persons have so far been arrested in connection with the ugly incident which evoked public outrage.
