The publisher of Genevieve Magazine – Betty Irabor, has been sharing her thoughts about domestic violence especially in marriages

According to the publisher and public speaker, she often struggles to understand how people enter marriage without truly knowing who they’re committing their lives to-or what that person is capable of.

The scripture reminds us that the human heart is deeply flawed. No one is demanding perfection-but discernment is required.

Her words: “So we must ask ourselves: Are we blinded by cultural programming, desire, and optimism-believing marriage will magically fix what is already broken?

“A man or woman who constantly puts you down, humiliates you, controls you, shames you, disrespects you, or enslaves you emotionally, mentally, or financially-even if they claim to be “God-fearing”-is unlikely to become the partner of your dreams after the wedding.

“If someone cannot defend you when their family reduces you to a “maid of dishonour” at your very first meeting, vows will not suddenly give them courage.

“I’ve heard countless stories: The partner who always turned their back while counting money-later revealed as deep stinginess.

“The one who showed violence toward others, excused because “it won’t be me. “The unresolved trauma promised to be healed after marriage-but never was.

“The signs showed up clearly: No support for your career. Financial manipulation – Dismissal of consent. Silencing your voice. Addiction excused with hope. Intimidation by your ambition Repeated red flags you felt-but ignore.

“So let’s ask the hard questions: “Are we enabling harmful behavior by overlooking obvious warning signs? Are we so afraid of being alone because of family or societal judgments that we silence the voice telling.
