Security operatives in Ondo State found a forty-two-year-old woman, Olatunde Funke, in the hands of another man at Ugbe-Akoko, one hundred and twenty-four kilometers from her matrimonial home at Ilara-Mokin, after she was declared missing by her husband.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi confirmed the incident, while advising  residents to avoid actions that could mislead authorities or trigger unnecessary panic, especially in sensitive situations involving missing persons.

This reporter learned that the woman’s husband had raised the alarm after she suddenly left their matrimonial home without any prior notice, prompting immediate concern and a search effort.

“Her disappearance caused serious panic. The family and residents were worried something bad had happened,” a source said.

However, security operatives later traced her to a hotel at Ugbe-Akoko, where she was discovered in the company of a 55-year-old man identified as Isa Alaba,  an estimated travel time of 2 hours and 45 minutes under normal traffic conditions from Ilara-Mokin.

“She was not abducted as initially feared. She left on her own without informing anyone and was later found with the man in the hotel,” the source disclosed.

The woman has since been taken into protective custody, while  authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances behind the incident, this reporter learnt

“This kind of situation creates an avoidable alarm. Resources meant for real emergencies were deployed because people feared the worst,” Abayomi said.

“There is a need for better communication, especially among couples. Many of these issues can be resolved through dialogue or family intervention instead of escalating into public concern,” he said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the police command to responding swiftly to distress calls and ensuring the safety of lives and property, while urging the public to always provide accurate and timely information when reporting incidents.
