Holds strategic meetings with political leaders, associates in Lagos before returning to Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after concluding his working vacation in Europe.

Tinubu arrived in Lagos from Paris on Tuesday evening aboard the Nigerian Air Force One, which taxied into the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22 p.m.

The President departed Nigeria on Aug. 30 for London, where he spent one week before proceeding to Paris, France, for the working vacation.

During his stay in Paris, Tinubu held engagements with French President Emmanuel Macron and participated in other official engagements.

The President returned through Lagos ahead of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola.

The president was welcomed by top government officials, including Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,; Chief of Staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila; Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas; Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; and security chiefs, among others.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday after arriving in Lagos following his stay in France, where he had spent the latter part of his vacation, Tinubu dismissed concerns about his health, saying he is “healthy, sound, and ready to go”.

Asked about concerns raised by some Nigerians and his supporters towards the end of his vacation about his health, Tinubu said there was nothing wrong with him.

“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong.

“Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” the President said.

Asked about his vacation, Tinubu said he enjoyed the period, stressing that he was back to work.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who was among the dignitaries who received the President, expressed optimism that the period of rest would translate into renewed vigour and increased activity.

“It is incredibly nice to have him after one month away, and we believe that the days he has spent resting will translate into more action this time around,” Abbas said.

The presidency had earlier said Tinubu would depart France on Tuesday for Lagos to honour the memory of the late MKO Abiola, whom it described as a martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the president would attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, on Independence Day.

Onanuga said Tinubu would also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
