Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has revealed that his decision to resign from the party was driven by the need for a “strategic realignment” amid Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

In a press statement announcing his resignation with immediate effect, Kwankwaso said the move, though difficult, became necessary in order to align with a political platform better positioned to “effectively change the nation.”

The former NNPP National Leader noted that recent developments in the country’s politics informed his decision, stressing that the current trajectory demands a recalibration of alliances ahead of future engagements.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” he stated, adding that identifying with another platform would offer greater opportunity to contribute to national progress.

Kwankwaso, who flew the NNPP flag in the 2023 presidential election, expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for their support during his time in the party.

He specifically thanked the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and party faithful across all levels for their loyalty and commitment.

The former governor also acknowledged members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their steadfast dedication to the party’s ideals and collective mission.

Despite his exit, Kwankwaso emphasised the need for continued cooperation among political stakeholders, expressing optimism that collaborative efforts would still be required to build a more prosperous Nigeria.
