Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu as his preferred APC governorship candidate for 2027 has triggered mixed reactions across the camps of other aspirants.

The announcement, made after a closed-door meeting with aspirants at Government House, Lafia, came as a surprise to many, including members of Senator Wadada’s camp. The governor’s decision effectively signals the ruling party’s direction ahead of the primaries.

While the endorsement is not binding on Nasarawa voters, it carries significant weight within the APC structure, given the governor’s position as the party leader in the state.

The move was met with initial shock by some contenders, but two prominent aspirants have publicly accepted the outcome and pledged loyalty to the party.

In a statement personally signed, Dr. Mohammed Musa Maikaya, founder of the Maikaya Development Foundation and two-time governorship aspirant, thanked his supporters and commended Governor Sule for his bold step towards strengthening the party and sustaining the state’s development.

According to him “I extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support, dedication, and belief in our shared vision throughout this journey. Your sacrifices and commitment have been truly humbling and inspiring,” he said.

“While our leader, Governor A.A. Sule, has in his wisdom selected Distinguished Senator Wadada as the preferred choice, I receive this outcome with utmost respect and a firm sense of responsibility. Democracy within our great party thrives on unity, discipline, and collective progress,” Maikaya added.

He congratulated Senator Wadada on his emergence as the preferred candidate, saying: “This is a call to greater service, and I have no doubt in your capacity to lead our party to victory and contribute meaningfully to the development of Nasarawa State,” Maikaya said.

Also reacting, former Accountant General of the state, Dr. Ahmed Musa, another strong contender, accepted the governor’s decision in good faith. He urged his supporters to remain calm and steadfast, saying the party’s interest must come first. He congratulated Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu for securing the endorsement of the governor ahead of the APC primaries.
