Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday said over one hundred suspected kidnappers had been arrested in the state in the past four months, an achievement that had led to the reduction of their criminal activities.

Aiyedatiwa stated this at the 70th birthday celebration of Senator Duro Samuel Faseyi, held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He further revealed that security operatives had also nipped attempts to storm the Governor’s Office and State Secretariat, through actionable intelligence of suspects’ actions and movements.

“Just two weeks ago, six young boys and a lady were arrested. They planned to bomb the Governor’s Office and the Secretariat to create panic in the state. They were initially lodged in a motel before relocating to a rented apartment, but they were apprehended before executing the act,” he said.

He added that all materials meant for the assault were seized, putting the success of the initiative on enhanced surveillance and coordinated inter-agency security operations.

According to him, recent achievements in security operations, including the apprehension of suspected hoodlums and the halting of criminal operations, were achieved through timely intelligence and improved surveillance systems.

“We are using intelligence and scientific methods to trace and discover crimes before they are committed. That is how we have been able to make arrests and prevent incidents,” he said.

He said though his administration inherited security challenges, it had intensified efforts to address them with support from the federal government, prioritising intelligence-led operations and scientific methods to detect, track and neutralise criminal activities before they were executed.

Affirming his commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the governor stressed that sustained peace and stability would depend on collective responsibility among stakeholders, since intelligence-driven policing and strengthened community collaboration remained the cornerstone of any state’s strategy to tackle insecurity.
