Charterhouse Lagos’ Founding Head and Director of Education, John Todd, has been honoured with the traditional chieftaincy title of AARE Oluko of Ogombo Kingdom by the Oba of Ogombo, HRM Alaiyeluwa, Oba Muslim Abiodun Ogunbo (Ogudu Oshadi of Ogombo Kingdom).
The ceremony will hold on Saturday, 22 August 2026 at the Oba of Ogombo’s Palace, brought together traditional rulers, representatives of the Lagos State Government, community leaders, members of the Charterhouse Lagos leadership team and other distinguished guests.
The title recognises Mr Todd’s contribution to education in Nigeria, as well as his pivotal role in the establishment and development of Charterhouse Lagos. As Founding Head, he has been instrumental in bringing the vision of a world-class British education to Nigeria while building a school that is firmly connected to its local community and Nigerian heritage.
The honour also acknowledges his relationship with the Ogombo community and his commitment to education, youth development and community engagement.
Speaking after receiving the title, Mr Todd expressed his gratitude to the Oba and the people of Ogombo, describing the honour as both humbling and deeply appreciated. He reflected on the importance of the relationship between Charterhouse Lagos and the community it calls home, and the shared commitment to education, service and the development of young people.
The occasion reflects Charterhouse Lagos’ commitment not only to delivering exceptional British education, but also to embracing Nigerian culture, building meaningful relationships within its community and contributing positively to Nigerian society.
It also embodies the school’s guiding philosophy, “Traditional Values. British Academic Excellence,” celebrating the richness of Nigerian heritage alongside the traditions and academic excellence for which Charterhouse is known.
Charterhouse Lagos proudly congratulates John Todd, AARE Oluko of Ogombo Kingdom, on this distinguished honour and celebrates this memorable occasion with the Oba and people of Ogombo.
