Victor Osimhen scored and assisted as Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-0 on Saturday, securing a semi-final place at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) in Morocco.
The much anticipated quarter-final encounter between the Super Eagles and the Desert Foxes was played at the Stade de Marrakech with over 32,452 spectators in attendance.
The Super Eagles faced stern resistance before the break, with Algeria compact in midfield, limiting chances in spite of the pressure from Osimhen, Akor Adams and Ademola Lookman.
Nigeria broke through after halftime when Osimhen powered home Bruno Onyemaechi’s cross in the 47th minute, his fourth goal of the tournament.
Ten minutes later, Osimhen turned provider, releasing Akor Adams, who rounded goalkeeper Luca Zidane and finished calmly to double Nigeria’s lead.
Algeria pushed forward in response but lacked penetration, as Nigeria’s disciplined defence protected goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali with authority.
The victory sends Nigeria into their 16th AFCON semi-final, where the Super Eagles will meet hosts Morocco.
Meanwhile to boost the morale of the team, the Industrialist and serial philanthropist, Alhaji Rabiu of BUA Group has promised the team a whooping USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.
Alhaji Rabiu conveyed this message to the team via his verified Xhandle.
He wrote: “Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria!
“You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi-finals.
“To encourage you, I pledge USD $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored.
“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.

As the competition enters its decisive phase, the quarter-finals have highlighted the quality of favourites and the narrow margins defining AFCON football.
After an unpredictable group stage and intense round-of-16 matches, only eight teams advanced with hopes of lifting the coveted trophy.
