The development was contained in a notice issued by the Office of the Chief Registrar and addressed to the Akure branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Legal practitioners were urged to take full advantage of the development to facilitate timely resolution of cases, as well as bring the new development to the Nigerian Bar Association in their respective branches.
“Members of the Bar are hereby urged to make maximum use of this special arrangement of the Court for timely dispensation of justice. Kindly bring the content of this letter to the full notice of members of the NBA in your branch,” the statement further stated.
According to the notice dated April 8, the new development was a part of efforts to bring justice closer to the people, enhance access to justice and ensure more efficient and speedy dispensation of cases.
The court is expected to handle appeals arising from customary courts across several local government areas within the northern senatorial district of the state, and the Chief Registrar of the court, Yetunde A. Ajanaku, expressed optimism that the initiative would improve justice delivery and called for the cooperation of stakeholders to ensure its success.
The court, which hears appeals specifically to questions of customary law and other matters prescribed by law, is located in Akure but conducts proceedings in other areas to improve justice delivery.
