Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL), a subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) joined companies and organisations across the globe during the week to celebrate Customer Service Week 2026, with the theme, “The Extra Mile.”
The event which held at the EEDC office, opposite the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital witnessed a large turnout of both management and staffers of the company.
Speaking with journalists at the event, the Managing Director of EEDL, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, said the event marked the official kick-off of the 2026 Customer Service Week, a globally recognised week dedicated to appreciating and celebrating both external and internal customers.
Engr. Nwosu explained that external customers are those to whom the organisation supplies electricity, as well as those who approach the organisation with various concerns relating to their electricity supply. He added that internal customers are the staff who work tirelessly to ensure that effective and quality service delivery to external customers becomes a reality.
Engr. Nwosu said the Customer Service Week provides an opportunity to recognise and appreciate both internal and external customers. He explained that outstanding staff would be recognised and rewarded, while those facing challenges would be encouraged to improve. For external customers, the organisation would engage directly with them, identify their concerns and work towards resolving issues, particularly those relating to billing and network challenges.
He also expressed concern over the incessant harassment faced by staff in the course of discharging their duties, urging employees to exercise caution and avoid any form of confrontation or altercation with customers, particularly when operating in volatile areas. He equally appealed to customers to refrain from assaulting, threatening or holding staff hostage, stressing that disagreements and complaints should be addressed through peaceful and established channels of communication.
“Our dream is to have a company where the customers appreciate what we do and they’re happy with our services”, he said.
Engr. Nwosu also expressed concern over the increasing cases of vandalism of EEDL facilities, noting that the menace is not peculiar to Ebonyi State but occurs across the country, including the vandalism of high-tension lines and other critical infrastructure.
Similarly, the Chief Commercial Officer of the Company, Mr. Cyprian Nwankwegu, described as very cordial the relationship between the management and staff of the electricity company and its external customers.
As part of activities marking the Customer Service Week, Mr. Nwankwegu said EEDL went the extra mile to serve its customers through On-the-Spot Complaints Resolution Exercise, which held October 8 and 9, 2026.
