The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the commission has opened a fresh nationwide online voter registration exercise.

INEC, in a public notice, said the website was circulating online with a false claim that voter registration had been rescheduled to run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

The commission identified the website, tinyurl.com/inecnigeria-cvr-org, as fake and stressed that it had no connection whatsoever with INEC.

The electoral body therefore urged members of the public not to click on the link or submit personal information through the platform, warning that doing so could expose sensitive data to theft, harvesting or other forms of misuse.

INEC clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026, stressing that any information suggesting that a new online registration exercise is currently being conducted through the fraudulent website is false.

The commission urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify information concerning voter registration and other electoral activities through its official communication channels.

It also advised members of the public to disregard unverified messages and websites capable of misleading prospective voters, particularly as preparations continue toward future elections.

For enquiries and verification, INEC provided its call centre number 0700-2255-4632 and short code 4632. Members of the public may also contact the commission on 090844444333 and 09050858629, or send an email to iccc@inec.gov.ng.

INEC further directed Nigerians to obtain authentic electoral information through its official website and news portal.

The commission reiterated that Nigerians should rely only on verified announcements from INEC to avoid falling victim to online fraud, identity theft and electoral misinformation.
