Ondo police arrest woman accused of attacking husband with cutlass

Police officers of the Ondo State Command have arrested and arraigned a woman, Mary Olatunde, for allegedly attacking her husband with a cutlass, leaving him with a serious hand injury, during a domestic disagreement that took place in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

 

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the altercation took place on June 2, 2026, at Ilado II area along Igbatoro Road, with the husband, identified as Olatunde Julius, allegedly sustaining a deep cut on his left hand during the confrontation.

 

Police said the injured man was rushed for medical treatment, where doctors attended to him and documented the extent of his injuries, after which the matter was reported to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters in Akure on June 3.

 

Investigators subsequently launched a probe, taking statements from both parties and gathering evidence surrounding the incident, with the suspect, Mary Olatunde,  arrested and later arraigned before a court, after the police said a prima facie case had been established against her.

 

Speaking on the development, the Ondo State Police Command emphasized that domestic violence remained a serious concern, regardless of the gender of the victim or perpetrator, and warned that acts of violence in domestic relationships would continue to attract legal consequences.

 

The Command noted that every individual deserved safety and dignity within the home and urged members of the public to promptly report incidents of abuse, violence, or other gender-related offences to security agencies for timely intervention.
