A 34-year-old Togolese, Biola Muhammed, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional centre for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl at the Owena Barracks of the Nigeria Army in Akure, Ondo State.
These facts came to light at an Akure Magistrate’s Court, where Muhammed, a farm labourer, was arraigned by the police for alleged defilement of the girl (Names withheld).
The prosecutor, Augustine Omheneimhen, informed the court that the incident occurred at 9:30am on April 25, 2026, when Augustine alleged that the defendant had unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim.
The offence contravened Section 3(a) and was punishable under(b,c) of the Violence Against Persons Law of Ondo State, 2021.
Relying on the statement of the victim, and her medical report from the 32, Brigade Medical Centre, Nigerian Army, Akure, Augustine urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The defendant, Muhammed, however, denied knowing the victim or her mother, despite the mother’s allegation that he raped her daughter and seized her phone.
His counsel, G.O Bernard prayed the court to transfer the case to the Magistrate’s family court and the case adjourned.
Adjourning the case to August 4, 2026, the Magistrate, O.T. Lebi, also ordered the remand of the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending DPP’s advice.
