The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), the campaign organisation of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to disrupt internet services across parts of Osun State during Saturday’s governorship election.
The council claimed it had received credible information indicating that some political actors were allegedly exploring ways to compromise internet connectivity on August 15 in a bid to interfere with the electoral process
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of its Media Committee, Representative Bamidele Salam, the campaign council alleged that there were plans to collude with telecommunications and internet service providers to deliberately slow down or disrupt network services in parts of the state on election day.
According to the statement, any disruption to telecommunications services could adversely affect the smooth conduct of the election, particularly the operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and other election-related digital communication processes.
The council alleged that the objective of the purported plot was to create communication difficulties, frustrate the transmission of election-related information and interfere with the free expression of the will of the electorate.
“The Imole Campaign Council has received credible information about a sinister plot to compromise internet connectivity in Osun State on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the day of the governorship election.
“According to information available to the Council, desperate political actors are exploring ways of colluding with telecommunications and internet service providers to deliberately slow down or disrupt internet services across parts of the state during the election,” the statement said.
The campaign organisation warned telecommunications companies operating in Osun State against allowing their infrastructure to be used for partisan political purposes.
It maintained that the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process should remain above the political interests of any individual or political party.
The council consequently called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to immediately monitor the activities and operational preparedness of all network providers in Osun State before and during the governorship election.
It urged the telecommunications regulator to ensure that there was no deliberate degradation of network quality, unexplained service disruption, selective network shutdown or any other technical manipulation capable of undermining election-related communications.
.
The campaign also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other relevant authorities to take the warning seriously and implement safeguards to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
According to the council, the people of Osun State have a constitutional right to freely elect their governor without interference from political actors or disruptions to essential communication infrastructure.
The campaign pledged to continue monitoring developments closely and said it would hold relevant institutions accountable for any attempt to undermine the governorship election through technological or telecommunications sabotage.
It further urge telecommunications operators to remain professional, neutral and faithful to their regulatory responsibilities, insisting that every technological facility required for the conduct of a credible election should function without interference on election day.
