As the 2027 general elections approaches, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, has turned down calls to contest the Bauchi governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan, Director-General of the Pate Youth Ambassadors Initiatives (PYi), the minister’s main support group  who stated this in a statement Monday, said the group had listened closely to calls from residents urging Pate to run.
The group described the support as deeply touching and truly inspiring, saying that the outpouring support reflects the trust and belief the people have in Pate’s capacity, competence, and visionary leadership.
Hassan said however, that Pate’s decision not to contest was a profound act of sacrifice driven by a commitment to national development.
“At this critical moment in our nation’s history, our country needs his expertise, experience, and global exposure more than ever,” he said.
“Professor Pate has once again demonstrated that true leadership is not about personal ambition, but about selfless service.” He added.
The statement assured Bauchi youths that Pate remains committed to their growth, empowerment, and future and urged continued prayers and solidarity.
The PYi added it would await Pate’s directive on which candidates to back for the governorship and National Assembly seats in 2027.
“When that time comes, we are confident in our collective strength and readiness to deliver,” Hassan said.
He praised Pate for choosing the path of sacrifice for the greater good, noting that despite having the experience, connections, and widespread support to run, the minister prioritized service to Nigeria.
“History will forever remember your decision, and generations to come will draw inspiration from your courage and patriotism,” the statement concluded.
