Police bust hideouts, arrest 15 suspects in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime across the state, arresting 15 suspected cultists and armed robbers in separate operations while recovering weapons, ammunition, illicit drugs, and cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

 

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made through coordinated intelligence-led operations involving Safe Delta, Operation Delta Sweep, and Operation Delta Shield.

 

In one of the operations, police operatives stormed a notorious criminal hideout known as Best Lodge in Oko Community on Monday April 27 at about 11:30 a.m. acting on the directive of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, officers arrested 14 suspects made up of 13 males and one female.

 

Items recovered during the raid included one locally made cut-to-size pistol, three live cartridges, two bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, four daggers, one cutlass, several mobile phones, and a cash sum of ₦133,100.00.

 

In a related operation later the same day, operatives of Operation Delta Shield intercepted a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Chidebere Irunkwor, during a stop-and-search duty along Kingsley Street.

 

Police said a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, and 10 Euros. Preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect is allegedly a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

 

“The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes in its sustained crackdown on criminal elements across the State,” the statement said.

 

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi reiterated the command’s determination to sustain pressure on criminal gangs through proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations.

 

He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.
