POST-NO-DEBIT: Days to gov election, EFCC freezes Osun govt account
Gov Ademola Adeleke
BY STEPHEN GBADAMOSI, IBADAN
Just about 10 days to governorship election in the state, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen Osun State government account.
The directive to freeze the state account, signed by the Director of Investigation of EFCC, Adenike S. Babalola, noted that the action was pursuant to Section 38 (1) & (2) of the EFCC Act, 2004 and Section 24 of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2023.
In a letter dated 8th August, 2026, the EFCC directed First Bank to place a “Post-No-Debit” on the account with number 2007170947.
A “Post-No-Debit” instruction stops all withdrawals and debits from an account while allowing deposits, effectively freezing spending, pending the outcome of a supposed investigation.
The development came few hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts and those of top government officials.
