Al-Makura: Maikaya lauds ex-Gov as rare statesman

The Chief Executive Officer of Maikaya Development Foundation, Alhaji Dr. Muhammed Maikaya, has joined the people of Nasarawa State, well-wishers across Nigeria, and countless admirers around the world in celebrating the 73rd birthday of His Excellency, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, former Governor of Nasarawa State, former Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic, and current Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).
In a statement signed and circulated by Ambassador Ahmed Salihu on Saturday, Dr. Maikaya described Senator Al-Makura as “a rare statesman whose vision, discipline, and transformational ideas laid the foundation for what is today widely regarded as Modern Nasarawa State.”
Dr. Maikaya noted that Senator Al-Makura’s life of service has continued to inspire generations, adding that his courage, humility, and unwavering commitment to the people remain benchmarks of true leadership. He extolled the former Governor’s remarkable legacy, which elevated the state in infrastructure, education, institutional reform, and inclusiveness.
According to Dr. Maikaya, who is aspiring to succeed Engineer Abdullahi Sule as Governor of Nasarawa State, “Senator Al-Makura is a mentor figure and a pathfinder whose journey motivates emerging leaders and committed voices working to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state.
Reflecting on his own dedication to humanitarian service, youth empowerment, and community development, Dr. Maikaya emphasised that leaders like Senator Al-Makura have set a high standard for selflessness and public service. He reaffirmed his commitment to building on the spirit of progress, unity, and shared purpose that has guided Nasarawa through successive administrations, noting that every generation has a responsibility to sustain and expand the legacy of those who came before.
