Live electric wire kills two children in Ondo

A live electric cable wire electrocuted two seven-year-old children, Oloyede Ayo and Clinton Koleola, while attempting to escape from it, having detached itself from an electric pole.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident, saying preliminary investigation indicated that the live electric cable had fallen on the shop.

While sympathising with the families of the deceased and assuring them that the command would thoroughly investigate the incident, he added that the police command had launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to him, the boys died while attempting to escape from a shop after the wire fell on it along Apefon Road in Idanre, Ondo State.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 26, 2026, throwing residents of the area into panic.

An eyewitness said the boys were inside the shop when the live cable suddenly came down on the building, causing panic and confusion among people in the vicinity.

The source said the children tried to run out of the premises but unfortunately came into contact with the fallen wire and were fatally electrocuted.
