Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of  seventy-one-year-old popular cleric, Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, at one hotel in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

Spokesperson of the Ondo State Police  Command, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

He said the arrested men were currently assisting the police in ongoing investigations aimed at establishing the actual cause of death and determining whether any foul play was involved.

He said the death of the cleric was reported at the Akungba Police Division by one Olaseni Sunday Olaoluwa, who informed the police that the deceased, his uncle, had travelled to Akungba-Akoko for a church programme where he was to be installed as the Head Baba Aladura of a faction of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, Ikare road.

Jimoh said preliminary investigations revealed that Fajana was allegedly found dead in a hotel in the community under circumstances considered suspicious.

Jimoh stated that detectives were investigating allegations that some church officials and hotel employees moved the deceased’s body to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko without first obtaining a medical certificate confirming the cause of death from a qualified medical practitioner.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that investigators were also probing claims that money exchanged hands to facilitate the deposit of the corpse at the mortuary before activities relating to the church programme continued.
