As part of efforts to encourage excellence, boost staff morale, and reinforce a culture of high performance, Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL) has held its maiden Mid-Year Staff Recognition Award Ceremony, recognising exceptional employees for their dedication and outstanding contributions to service delivery.

Making this known to newsmen, the Head of Communications, Mrs. Patience Ezeagu, described the initiative as the first of its kind in the company, noting that staff would now be recognised both mid-year and at the end of the year in appreciation of their commitment and contributions to the organisation’s growth.

According to her, the initiative is designed to motivate employees to sustain excellence, promote healthy competition, and strengthen EEDL’s commitment to delivering quality service to customers.

The event was filled with excitement as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of EEDL, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, was welcomed by enthusiastic chants from staff, reflecting the cordial relationship and confidence the workforce has in his leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Engr. Chuka-Nwosu commended staff for their resilience, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to the company’s vision despite the challenges encountered in the course of duty.

“I always tell you that I have so much belief in all of us – in the EEDL team. I know I have the best team, and we will always remain the best,” he said.

The Managing Director applauded the workforce for the dedication and hard work that have sustained the company’s operations in the first half of the year.

He acknowledged the operational challenges faced by employees and assured them of Management’s continued support.

“We are aware of the challenges on the job, and we are working to surmount them. I know it is not easy, but trust me, we will keep pushing. Any support required to make your work easier and more effective will be provided,” he assured.

Engr. Chuka-Nwosu also reminded staff that customers remain the reason for the company’s existence and urged them to maintain professionalism, courtesy, and effective communication in all customer interactions.

Also speaking, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Cyprian Nwankwegu, congratulated members of staff for their impressive performance and encouraged marketers to ensure prompt bill distribution and timely escalation of customer complaints for effective resolution.

He further urged employees to remain committed to building a stronger organisation.

“Let us continue to build this business together so that we can all enjoy the rewards of our collective efforts,” he said.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding employees across various departments. Award categories included Overall Best Meter Technician, Best Substation Operator, Best Linesman, Best Cable Jointer, Best Marketer, Best Billing Officer, Best Customer Service Officer, Best Electrical Fitter, Best Operations Technician, Best Feeder Manager, Best Cleaner, Best Driver, Best Security Officer, among others.

The Managing Director presented the award recipients with certificates of recognition and cash gifts in appreciation of their exemplary performance and invaluable contributions to the growth and success of the organisation.

Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, Christiana Obasi, who emerged as the Best Billing Officer, expressed profound appreciation to the Managing Director for his visionary and people-centred leadership, which she said has inspired staff to continually give their best. She commended Management for introducing the Mid-Year Staff Recognition Awards, describing it as a timely initiative that acknowledges hard work and motivates employees to strive for greater excellence. She assured Management that the recognition would spur the awardees and the entire workforce to remain committed, uphold professionalism, and work even harder towards achieving the company’s operational and revenue targets.

The Mid-Year Staff Recognition Award Ceremony complements the company’s End-of-Year Recognition Awards introduced in 2025 and underscores EEDL’s commitment to recognising excellence, inspiring higher productivity, and fostering a motivated workforce dedicated to delivering reliable electricity services to customers across Ebonyi State.
